Nagpur is growing, so is the living standard, so is the number of vehicles, so is the traffic, and sadly, so is growing the number of accidents - The only negative point in the growth chart. Keeping this in mind, and inspired by the big cities like Mumbai and Delhi, NMC (Nagpur Municipal Corporation) opened a Traffic Park in the heart of the city in 2008.
This park has traffic lights, yellow lines, neatly kept miniature streets and footpaths, and a huge board full of traffic symbols: in short, it has everything that a child needs to develop good traffic sense. Although the authorities are yet to come up with a few traffic related events, the place has already become a popular evening destination for families as well as youngsters.
If you happen to visit the place in the evening, you can see mothers smiling at their young ones who are usually busy racing through the whole park in their tiny scooters and cars, fathers buying them balloons, or wiping melted ice cream off their grinning faces. You will also find youngsters having an evening walk with headphones plugged in or a large group hanging around the food-court inside the park, simply munching on popcorns, or slurping ice-gola and chit-chatting animatedly. The ambience is pleasant, vibrant, and perfect for a lazy evening.
And to complete the picture, the park has water fountains changing colours with the beats of popular Hindi and Marathi songs, which catch the attention of children and adults alike. So this weekend, if you once again get busy deciding where you should take the noisy little people in the backseat of your car, or you are in a mood to sit and talk with friends without a care in the world, just head over to Traffic Park, near Bhagwaghar Layout. Oh! And did I forget to mention they have a big screen showing Mowgli with his jungle friends, and Tom angrily chasing Jerry? You just can’t say No now! And no need to worry about the never-available parking space; surprisingly, they have plenty of it!
