Hello Nagpurkars! In the twit-interview series, we bring to you another interesting tweep from Nagpur - @bendre
Sameer Bendre from Alpharetta, GA - USA
Born and raised in Nagpur - graduated from PCEA as BE in Comp.Tech. I am now working as a IT/Software consultant through a Indian IT consulting company. Agile/Scrum enthusiast. Hobbies: Music, golf, cooking (I'm a foodie!) and latest in cell phones/gadgets.
2) How does Twitter help you ? In Social Life/Business/Learning ?
Personal: Helps stay in touch with latest in India (Mumbai, Nagpur and around the world). Twitter was very helpful when we were following updates on 26/11 closely. Made some new friends with common interest. Helps keep me eye on deals etc ;).
Professional/Learning: Following many industry experts and leaders regarding their experiences, views and practices on latest technologies and methodologies. I was very fortunate to meet agile/scrum experts in Orlando, FL and now collaborating with some of them online. I get to read their blogs and their recommendations.
3) How much time do you spend daily on Twitter? What about other social networks ?
Twitter: I spend average 2 hrs a day. Other networks I use include LinkedIn (Volunteer as a group manager for 2 Scrum Alliance groups) and foursquare (If I can remember to check in!).
4) How can Twitter be used for benefit of Nagpur & Nagpurians ?
Just some ideas that I'd like to share with Nagpurkars/Nagpurians. Collaborate, Meet, Discuss, Organize talks by bringing in experts who are in Nagpur or visiting Nagpur (Entrepreneurs, Artists, Various industry experts). Getting exposure to advice and first hand feedback from people early in your career/college days can help a lot.
5) Have you met any of your Twitter friends personally ?
Yes, I got to meet some tweeps/industry experts whom I follow, during a couple of conferences I attended. Looking forward to meet Nagpur tweeps/friends during my visit this July (2010) to India.
6) Which Twitter Clients do you use ?
Current: TweetDeck (Desktop) and Twikini (Windows Mobile)
Past: Seesmic (Desktop) and PockeTwit (When in Houston, TX I got a chance to meet @JakeS creator of this app. Gr8 guy!), ceTwit (Windows Mobile)
7) Any favourite Twitter users ?
Professional: @tobiasmayer, @jurgenappelo, @davidjbland - Love their blogs (Agile/Scrum experts)
Personal: Always good to hear about/from #Nagpur tweeps! Good to connect with new friends @palewar, @Ramblinggeek and @RohiTweet. (@_abhijeet_d is my childhood buddy and I think I can take credit for bringing him to Twitter ;))
8) Your message to Nagpurians ?
Internet and social media opens up a LOT of avenues, it's up to every person what they want to explore! I second @palewar's note on going green and making use of electronic media for daily chores. Also, If one tweep can help educate few neighbors to use online payments and productive internet usage, that can make a BIG difference to eliminate the "fear of computer/internet" - one home at a time!
Thank you Sameer for your valuable time. It is a pleasure to talk to you.
