BLUE - Diwali Bomb that fails to go off!
BLUE is the costliest movie ever made in Bollywood – budgeted 100 crores! Producer Dhilin Mehta bought the most costly stuff in the world to decorate his product. He is successful in presenting an expensive gift to the audience for Diwali – sorry to say but it is of no use to us. BLUE is beautiful, but we expected some brains too.

Before its release the makers of BLUE and the stars associated with it assured the audience that it would be a stuff which is never seen in the Indian Cinema before. They kept their word – our expectations were never shattered so badly before.

Anthony D’souza – a debutant director – takes us under water – we remain there half the time. No doubt the cinematographer Pete Zuccarini did a superb job – he captured the marine life at Bahamas quite incredibly. But apart from it everything – the story, the screenplay, dialogues, performances, music, almost everything went wrong in BLUE, creating the biggest mess ever experienced. From the promos we might have guessed that it would be a treasure hunt kind of a movie – but believe me, it is no where near a treasure hunt. Our very own Sanju Baba knows the exact location of the KHAZANA – no question of maps, puzzles, adventure, obstacles – theres no ‘journey to hunt the treasure’ kinda stuff.

The first half is not very convincing with respect to the plot and the story telling. BLUE opens with Kabir Bedi, a Captain of a ship named ‘Lady in Blue’ rescues himself from drowning into the sea – the presentation of first scene itself hints us that pathetic two hours are waiting for us.

Enters Akshay Kumar flaunting his ‘AARAV’ tattoo on his back – this time he managed to borrow the name of his character from his real son. Not so smashing entry as compared to Bhool Bhullayya, Kambakht Ishq, and Namaste London.

As the story unfolds and all the characters and their situations are introduced you can guess almost every scene and every turn the story’s gonna take. The instance where Sanjay Dutt denies Akshay to assist him in getting to the under water treasure – you are more than convinced that our Sanju Baba wont keep his word in the later part of the film.

Some of the sequences are directly copied from Hollywood flicks – those who have seen TORQUE will be least interested in watching the long chase sequences with zooming bikes – presenting Zayed Khan as a hardcore biker. Isn’t it hard to digest? – Zayed Khan,  a speed sigma – come on yaar, spare us the horror. He is not even the last choice when it comes to speed biking.

The stunt coordinators of BLUE are the people who have worked with BAD BOYS 2 – so some of the chase sequences are treat to watch, but the blasts that come every now and then no matter what happens, there’s a blast for everything – you get irritated and the one where Sanjay Dutt’s house is blown into pieces seems too animated.

BLUE is the one billionth Bollywood movie where the villain hostages the heroine for money and our heroes unite to rescue her by managing the money as well as lot of dishum-dishum at the end. Guyz we are not at all in a mood to take this any more even if we are paid to watch such pathetic stuff.

The twist at the climax where Akshay reveals some historical truth doesn’t seem much relevant contributing to the torture we had been through for the last 100 minutes.

The basics of film making – a treasure hunt movie should be thrilling – a little mystery – edge-of-the-seat kind of pace, very tight editing. But the makers of BLUE score zero in all the departments. There are countless loopholes in the movie.  The producer Dilin Mehta simply poured the money into the waters of Bahamas – if he had invested the mulla somewhere else – might have got profitable returns. The distributors Shree Ashta Vinayak Cinevision have burnt their fingers by investing in this project – I don’t know how much they are going to recover from such a poor show.

Akki!

Akshay Kumar’s performance is good but its very routine and typical Akki. Short of freshness, BLUE has the same old one liners and punches from Akshay. His act is not convincing at all – though it would be an easy escape for him because he can easily blame the writing as the major culprit. I think he is not aware of the fact that the audience is fed up of his short hair look which he carrying from his last four films – adding half of the French beard this time is not a solution. Akki, if you have a hair fall problem take tips from our Sallu Bhai.

Sanju Baba

Sanjay Dutt scores full marks in flaunting his paunch in most of the scenes where he is seen in tight outfits – that’s the reason why Sanju Baba is hiding his bulging tummy leaning rightwards in the poster of BLUE. A very small portion of the budget would have been enough for Sanju’s body building expenses – he would definitely shy away by seeing his on screen bulky structure. The makers shouldn’t have taken chances because the character of Sagar which Sanjay Dutt played requires someone with a sculpted physique and outstanding buildup. Sanju not even impresses us with his acting – he seems completely lost – aconfused about which expressions to be given when.

Lara Dutta

Lara Dutta shines out of all – her job was to look sexy hot babe and entertain the masses which she did flawlessly – thanks to her short outfits and the exclusive range of bikinis which she showcased in the sensual and intimate song Aaj Dil Gustakh Hai with Sanjay Dutt. Though she didn’t have much scope to show her caliber as an actress but still she played her part with perfection. She would be definitely be there when someone discusses the best things about BLUE, though there are very few. But the major concern – Sanjay Dutt playing her love interest seemed truly awkward – it’s a mismatch all the way.

Others

The only thing that shines about Katrina Kaif is her lip stud though it doesn’t suit her. She wears straggly hair too for the character of Nikki but that suits her even worse. Although her role is very short but she somehow managed to convey her message to the audience that she cannot act. After New York such disappointing performance is really not expected from her. I think Akshay might be the only reason for her to sign BLUE.

Zayed Khan is the odd man out with respect to the star cast. He did it again which he has done all these years – bad acting. Pick any of his movies and you would notice Zayed Khan very uncomfortable when it comes to acting. He should be suggested to register for an acting course for a year or two before signing the next movie.

Rahul Dev did a better job of being bad man – some of his one liners were quite impressive – but still the character of a routine villain irritates today’s audience.

ARR & Music

AR Rehman – acclaimed as the king of music worldwide last year, was the most heart breaking disappointment of this motion picture. Such a mediocre sound track is the last thing that could be expected from a man of his stature. The title track is the only composition which is bearable.  I simply don’t understand why people are saying that the Chiggy-Wiggy song is topping the chartbusters – the presentation of this song is even worse where Kylie Minogue looks aged as well as lost – the confusion of what she is doing in BLUE is reflected from her expressions in the dance sequence with Akshay and Gang. Really it’s a pity for Bollywood.

The best part comes in the interval – De Dana Dan promo – Akshay – Sunil – Paresh – Priyadarshan are back with a hilarious flick – its a November release. I am sure they will recreate the magic of Hera Pheri.

Watch BLUE if you want to experience the demonstration of how 100 crores can be destructed, else go for ALL THE BEST – it’s a hilarious family entertainer – you will definitely enjoy the laugh riot.
