Nagpur Rock Bands 'Awakening Souls' & 'Arahaan' are going to rock the 'Radio Mirchi & Pulsar in association with Cotton King' - Mirchi Sound Check event this Sunday (05 Dec) at the Empress Mall.
We caught up with the young rock stars from the band 'Awakening Souls' - Here's an excerpt from the interview:

Q: Tell us about how it all started for 'Awakening Souls'
A: (Vishal) We formed 'Awakening Souls' in January 2010 - All of us had similar interests in music. We did our first performance in January 2010 & since then we have grown stronger with each performance.
Q: Any specific reason behind the name 'Awakening Souls'?
A: (Kushal) Through our music, we have been able to awaken our souls & we want to do the same for our listeners. We hope to play great music that can reach out to the audience & take them on a surreal experience & awaken their souls!
Q: Do you make / play a particular genre of music ?
A: We like mostly Funk Rock, Alternative Rock & Metal
Q: Tell us about your gigs
A: (Srinivas) We have had some memorable performances at INOX Nagpur ( 4th Anniversary), Sand Blasted II & at various engineering colleges. We also have performed at Traffic Park & RBI colony on special occasions.
Q: Any memorable moments / goof ups that you would like to share with us
A: (Vishal) Receiving appreciation at Sandblasted II event from the judges was a wonderful feeling. Also it was a great feeleing when we won the Rock Band competition at G H Raisoni college.
There have been quite a few goof ups - Once during a performance the bass pedal of the drummer broke & we had to manage without it.
Q: Your favourite bands / artists
A: Metallica, RHCP, Jal, Papa Roach
Q: What is the glue that binds 'Awakening Souls' ?
A: It is our brotherhood. And then ofcourse music.
(Mayur) We bond really well & we spend a lot of time together. We cant imagine playing in any other band with any other members. We are like a family!
Q: How are you preparing for the Mirchi Sound Check Event on Sunday 05 Dec 2010 ?
A: Generally we practice once / twice in a week. And a week before the show, we start practicing daily.
Mirchi Sound Check is a huge event & we have been practicing continously for the past week. Also we rely a lot on individual practice.
Q: What can Nagpurians expect at the Mirci Sound Check event from 'Awakening Souls' ?
A: We are going to play five english songs , three hindi songs & an instrumental. There will be lot of energy & we expect to entertain the crowd to the fullest.
We have composed a special song for the sponsor - Bajaj Pulsar. Its going to be a awesome evening for sure.
Q: Your thoughts about Mirchi Sound Check event.
A: It is the best platform for rock bands in Nagpur! Playing at Empress Mall in front of huge crowd is a wonderful feeling for any rock band. This event has set a precedent & we hope more events like Mirchi Sound Check are organised!
