RJ Noopur - Radio Mirchi Nagpur

Hello Nagpurians, meet Radio Mirchi's RJ Noopur - A multi tasking lady who is as good a dentist as she is a Radio Jockey!  We caught up with her at the Radio Mirchi's Nagpur Office. Here’s an extract from her interview.

Q: So Noopur, tell us about yourself.
A: My qualifications are that of a Dentist. I am currently doing internship in my college. I always wanted to do something creative & nice and ‘Radio’ seemed to be the perfect place for achieving my goals. Currently I am managing my internship as well as I am also doing evening shows in Radio Mirchi.

Q: So when did you feel that you wanted to become a RJ ?
A: This started a long time back. I heard about RJ’s when I was in Delhi and found it really interesting. I had decided at that time only that I will become a RJ. When Radio Stations started their operations in Nagpur I went for the RJ Auditions and got selected for in a Radio Station. But at that time I was in my second year of graduation and had to concentrate on my studies. So I decided to skip that RJ’ing opportunity. But becoming a RJ was always on the cards. I again gave the Auditions last September (2009) for RJ in Radio Mirchi and got selected! I have been working here since past one and half months. I am really happy to be here! (Smiles)

Q: What are the shows that you host?
A: When I started working for Mirchi, I was doing ‘Kya Jamana Tha’ from 2 p.m. till 5 p.m. Currently I am hosting ‘Bumper to Bumper’ from 5 p.m. till 9 p.m.

Q: Managing Radio along with internship - How do you keep up?
A: (Laughs) For me, it’s all spontaneous. The entire atmosphere here is so electrifying that it all comes naturally for me without needing much effort. ‘Kya Jamana Tha’ was a difficult show since its theme was retro and needed lots of preparation. But since I am doing my dream job, just being here keeps me happy and enthusiastic all the time.

Q: How has being  a RJ changed you as a person?
A: It’s been just one and half months that I started working here. So I haven’t seen any changes in myself, yet. I am still the same person. But my friends do complain that I don’t spend much time with them these days. (Laughs) And yes, I have seen changes in others behavior. All of a sudden people, who never use to like you or talk with you, now do want to talk to you. But if you ask me, I am still the same person!

Q: Can you share some of your memorable moments On-Air ?
A: (Laughs) I still remember each and every person who called me and complimented me on my very first live show on Radio Mirchi. Before that I had to do a soft launch show from 12 in the
midnight till 1 am in the morning. So that was the first time I actually faced the mike for a show.  That was one memorable moment.

Q: What are your hobbies?
A: I love reading. Ever since childhood I was an avid reader. I am a big fan of Paulo Coelho,  Dan Brown and Khaled Husseini. Music is a big passion too. (Smiles)

Q: And Your favorite movies.
A: I am a big time movie buff. I love watching movies. ‘Dil Chahata Hai’ is my all-time favorite movie. I also like Rang De Basanti and 3 Idiots.

Q: What is the one thing that you love about Nagpur?
A: Nagpur is home to me. I am very comfortable here. Nagpur is the place where I can find peace and I love it. One more thing I like about Nagpur is that it is a very safe city. You can venture out at any time of the day without bothering much about your safety.

Q: One thing you hate about Nagpur.
A: (Laughs) One thing I hate about Nagpur is the traffic sense of the people. That’s the one thing Nagpur needs to improve upon.

Q: Any Tips for aspiring Radio Jockeys.
A: As an RJ you have to be well informed about everything that’s happening around you. You have to be quick-witted in order to handle tough situations that you may face during live shows. You should be really confident about yourself. You should always have an opinion about things happening around you, whether it’s right or wrong doesn’t matter. But you should have the guts and skills to speak your heart out while taking care that you are not hurting anyone.

Q: Your message to Nagpurians.
A: I want Nagpurians to be more sensitive towards other drivers on the road. I want everybody to believe in themselves and to follow their heart & work hard to fulfill their dreams.

Thank you Noopur for sharing your thoughts with us. We wish you all the best!
