In our series of RJ Interviews, today we present to you the dashing Ganesh from Radio Mirchi!
Ganesh Salian is the Programming Head of Radio Mirchi’s Office in Nagpur. He also conducts some shows on Radio Mirchi & has been with Mirchi for the past few years. Here is an extract from his interview.
Q: Tell us something about yourself.
A: I am a bit shy (This seems to be a prerequisite for becoming an RJ) and I am a movie buff. I love watching movies of any and every kind. I was born and brought up in Mumbai. I am a Bachelor of Commerce and I hate the subject called as ‘Accounts’(Laughs). Currently, I am working as Programming Head for Radio Mirchi’s Nagpur Centre.
Q: Tell us about your journey towards becoming a RJ.
A: Before working for Radio Mirchi, I worked with ESPN and UTV Pictures in the ‘Distribution’ Department. In June of 2007 I joined Radio Mirchi, Kolhapur and worked there for almost 2 years before joining Radio Mirchi, Nagpur. Radio is very close to my heart and I am happy to be a part of it. (Smiles)
Q: What are the shows that you host?
A: I host one weekly show – “Tod Do Deewarein” on Sundays from 5pm till 7pm. I am involved in weekly planning, marketing, handling proposals and finances. I also do voice-overs for some of the shows and commercials.
Q: As an RJ, you are always required to be happy & cheerful? How do you manage to be enthusiastic all day long?
A: (Laughs) I have got a great team to work with, which makes the work environment really cheerful. Good teamwork really helps in keeping the moral up. Nevertheless, Radio itself is a big motivator. I love my job that may be another reason why I am cheerful all the time. (Laughs)
Q: How has being a RJ changed you as a person?
A: Radio has helped me to become a good human being. Talking with people live on Radio really triggers my thought processes and helps to channel them in a proper direction. I am a confident individual now and I have also learnt how to handle responsibilities handed down to me.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: I play pool and I am a food junkie! I love trying out different cuisines. I also like going out on Long Drives on my Bike. (Laughs)
Q: Your favorite movies.
A: I love watching movies and my favorite ones include ‘Life is Beautiful’, ‘Rang De Basanti’ and ‘DasVidaniya’.
Q: And your Favorite Delicacies.
A: As I saidr, I love to try out different Cuisines but I hate Muli, Palak and Watermelons. (Smiles) I like spicy food and Saoji is my favorite. I also like Kheema Paav and Biryani.
Q: What is the one thing that you love about Nagpur?
A: The best thing about Nagpur is that, it has nice roads and there are NO Traffic Jams. This green City is really peaceful and the people here are really friendly and helpful. And how can I forget Nagpur Special, Spicy Saoji Delicacies. (Laughs)
Q: One thing you dont like about Nagpur.
A: (Sighs) You don’t get good Vada Paav here. (Guys, He is from Mumbai!). Nagpur theaters don’t release English Movies. One thing I would like to mention here is that many people don’t follow traffic rules.
Q: Any Tips for aspiring Radio Jockeys.
A: You have to be really innovative and creative all the time and for doing so you should be really passionate about whatever you do. For becoming a good RJ, it really matters how well you are updated about the current events. Presence of Mind as well as ‘Out of the Box Thinking’ are plus point too.
Q: Your message to Nagpurians.
A: I like this city and people here are great. But I would be really happy, if people follow some basic traffic rules. It’s not that difficult. Nobody has a right to put his/her or others life in danger.
Rightly said Ganesh. We hope Nagpurians will try to be more careful when it comes to following traffic rules.
