Before its release the makers of BLUE and the stars associated with it assured the audience that it would be a stuff which is never seen in the Indian Cinema before. They kept their word – our expectations were never shattered so badly before.
Anthony D’souza – a debutant director – takes us under water – we remain there half the time. No doubt the cinematographer Pete Zuccarini did a superb job – he captured the marine life at Bahamas quite incredibly. But apart from it everything – the story, the screenplay, dialogues, performances, music, almost everything went wrong in BLUE, creating the biggest mess ever experienced. From the promos we might have guessed that it would be a treasure hunt kind of a movie – but believe me, it is no where near a treasure hunt. Our very own Sanju Baba knows the exact location of the KHAZANA – no question of maps, puzzles, adventure, obstacles – theres no ‘journey to hunt the treasure’ kinda stuff.
The first half is not very convincing with respect to the plot and the story telling. BLUE opens with Kabir Bedi, a Captain of a ship named ‘Lady in Blue’ rescues himself from drowning into the sea – the presentation of first scene itself hints us that pathetic two hours are waiting for us.
Enters Akshay Kumar flaunting his ‘AARAV’ tattoo on his back – this time he managed to borrow the name of his character from his real son. Not so smashing entry as compared to Bhool Bhullayya, Kambakht Ishq, and Namaste London.
As the story unfolds and all the characters and their situations are introduced you can guess almost every scene and every turn the story’s gonna take. The instance where Sanjay Dutt denies Akshay to assist him in getting to the under water treasure – you are more than convinced that our Sanju Baba wont keep his word in the later part of the film.
Some of the sequences are directly copied from Hollywood flicks – those who have seen TORQUE will be least interested in watching the long chase sequences with zooming bikes – presenting Zayed Khan as a hardcore biker. Isn’t it hard to digest? – Zayed Khan, a speed sigma – come on yaar, spare us the horror. He is not even the last choice when it comes to speed biking.
The stunt coordinators of BLUE are the people who have worked with BAD BOYS 2 – so some of the chase sequences are treat to watch, but the blasts that come every now and then no matter what happens, there’s a blast for everything – you get irritated and the one where Sanjay Dutt’s house is blown into pieces seems too animated.
BLUE is the one billionth Bollywood movie where the villain hostages the heroine for money and our heroes unite to rescue her by managing the money as well as lot of dishum-dishum at the end. Guyz we are not at all in a mood to take this any more even if we are paid to watch such pathetic stuff.
The twist at the climax where Akshay reveals some historical truth doesn’t seem much relevant contributing to the torture we had been through for the last 100 minutes.
The basics of film making – a treasure hunt movie should be thrilling – a little mystery – edge-of-the-seat kind of pace, very tight editing. But the makers of BLUE score zero in all the departments. There are countless loopholes in the movie. The producer Dilin Mehta simply poured the money into the waters of Bahamas – if he had invested the mulla somewhere else – might have got profitable returns. The distributors Shree Ashta Vinayak Cinevision have burnt their fingers by investing in this project – I don’t know how much they are going to recover from such a poor show.

Zayed Khan is the odd man out with respect to the star cast. He did it again which he has done all these years – bad acting. Pick any of his movies and you would notice Zayed Khan very uncomfortable when it comes to acting. He should be suggested to register for an acting course for a year or two before signing the next movie.
Rahul Dev did a better job of being bad man – some of his one liners were quite impressive – but still the character of a routine villain irritates today’s audience.
ARR & Music
Watch BLUE if you want to experience the demonstration of how 100 crores can be destructed, else go for ALL THE BEST – it’s a hilarious family entertainer – you will definitely enjoy the laugh riot.
