Bhushan Bawankule, a young entrepreneur from Nagpur, who has graduated from the prestigious Entrepreneurial Development Institute (EDI), Ahmedabad, has happy news for all “idiots who want to speak up their emotions”. Now they can wear their emotions on their sleeves tinged with tongue in cheek humor. His company called EDiOTS produces and markets humor clothing (especially T shirts as of now) that are being showcased in stores like SOLO in Mate Chowk, SEAN medical square, SEAN sadar, Bliss in Mumbai and Bliss Pune as well. Will be available soon in Delhi –NCR, Bangalore, Hyderabad and other major cities. There are two reasons why Bhushan has named his maiden venture EDiOTS: the first three alphabets standing for his alma mater EDI and a social responsibility towards good humored, laid back, often tortured emotional idiots !
Bhushan’s clothing business was bringing in the moolah much before he graduated. While still a student, Bhushan was mass producing T shirts and Mugs for fellow students who included regular batches of foreigners who came for short term courses. His exclusive souvenir Shoppe included mugs, caps and other unique gift articles. Seeing potential in this business, his sister Suhasini Paul, who is an eminent Toy Designer graduated from NID, Ahmedabad and founder of PinkElefant- a creative design company based in Noida, offered to be the design partner of EDiOTS. They decided to launch this line in Nagpur which is their hometown but also keep a pan India presence simultaneously.
PAUL Sandip, an internationally acclaimed product designer from NID, has been a great source of inspiration for EDiOTS as their creative advisor, without whom it was not possible.
The humour right now may be inspired by Nagpur colloquial lingo, but it already has takers in metros like Mumbai, Bengluru, Pune, Hyderabad and Delhi. And what is really note worthy is that the first ‘emotional’ customer the shirt was presented to was the inimical business tycoon Dr. Vijay Mallya who launched this company in Ahmedabad when Bhushan’s EDI batch graduated with Mallya being the Chief guest.
“God loves common people, He made so many like you and only a few like me” said that Tee, coined by PAUL Sandip.
“After tying with retail stores and coffee shops where our brand will be sold, we will also launch small stores and kiosks in smaller cities, where student population is sizeable. Here we will offer accessories like bags, caps, belts and wallets with other designer products like cushion covers and furniture”, Bhushan told us.
The second vertical of the Company makes shirts to order for educational institutes and Corporate houses, with their logo and/design printed on the EDiOTS T-shirt also design service can be provided to educational institutes and corporate houses by PinkElefant. This is slated to be big business in coming years as Companies are becoming pro active and creative in dressing up their employees.
