National Handloom Expo 2011, currently underway at Kasturchand Park Nagpur, has received tremendous response from Nagpurians! Seventy Six participants from all across India have displayed their ethnic & modern designs of Sarees, shawls, Shirts & kurtas. Also on display are Bags, Purses, Bedsheets & home decor items. A day would not be enough to go through the complete expo which has sarees & shawls ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 2.50 lacs!
The best of the handloom collections from all over India are at display at Handloom Expo. There are six domes erected at the expo which houses stalls from over 76 participants. The best of the handloom work from each of the states is on display under one roof. Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir.... Name any state & you will find the handloom specialities from that state on display at the Expo!
There is also a special theme pavilion where live demonstration of a weaving machine & processes can be seen.
Keeping with the trend of innovation, the National Handloom Expo has introduced a new variant of Silk - Ahimsa Silk meaning non-violence. The silk is also known as Peace Silk or Jain Silk, is processed from cocoons without killing the pupae inside. The ahimsa silk is available for sale at the Maharashtra State Handloom corporation stall at the expo.
The Expo is sponsored by Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Minsitry of Textile - Govt of India & co-sponsored by Dept of Textiles - Govt of Maharashtra. Maharashtra State Handloom Corporation Limited is the organiser of this event. The event managers for the expo are Admaark Events.
