Orange City Craft Mela and Folk Dance Festival

South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC), Nagpur is one of the seven zonal cultural centre established on 2 nd October, 1986 with its head quarter at Nagpur. It comprises the linguistically different states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Each of these States has rich traditions of folk, tribal, fine arts and crafts. The Centre strives through its various activities to enrich, promote and strengthen these traditions.This year the Centre is celebrating its Silver Jubilee year.For the promotion of culture and art from different parts of the country, South Central Zone Cultural Centre Nagpur has organised 'Orange City Craft Mela and Folk Dance Festival' from October 8 to 21.
The Centre has planned and invited handicrafts, handlooms and craft artisans from all over India who would be selling their artifacts with creative designs. This year the mela is divided into various zones where handlooms, metal, leather, terracotta, furniture, jewellery, ceramics will be divided into separate zones for the convenience of the art lovers.The metal works and the woodwork on display are really amazing and display the rich craftsmanship of tribal India.The whole area is not congested at all and due care has been taken so that visitors can roam about freely and appreciate the Tribal Arts.
Around 250 folk dancers from Punjab, Rajasthan, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Chhattisgarh, Harayana, Assam, Arunachal, Kerala, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra will perform their traditional folk dances in the dance festival.The special attraction of this dance festival is that Bhahurupia, Nat and Bhapang players will be performing for the first time in Nagpur.The performances of these artists is really mesimerizing.One should actually watch them perform to experience this thrill.
The event can be described as the central India s biggest event in the field of art and culture. So do pay a visit and enjoy the show.
