Tribal Life recreated in Nagpur
Recently Dr. Abhay Bang and Dr. Rani Bang received Lifetime achievement Award in the Real Heros of India event.They received this award for tirelessly working to improve the public health services in remote tribal villages in Gadchiroli district of Vidarbha.Similarly, great individuals like Baba Amte and Prakash Amte have dedicated their lives in the betterment of the tribal pockets in our country.We, as city dwellers can not even imagine the lifestyle and the customs and traditions of these remote tribal people.But Nagpurkars now have got a rare opportunity to witness the lifestyle and art and craft of Tribal India.
A unique Workshop cum Demonstration event is underway on the premises of South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC) where group of experienced artists from the tribal belt of Central India are working hard to recreate the atmosphere of Gond, Bhill, Rajwar, Muria, Warli, Chowki, Saora style villages in the premises.The artists are creating tribal style huts,traditional interiors and decorative items which will be installed in the centre premises permanently.Also workshops are underway where artists are creating tribal art pieces consisting of tribal Iron work, wood work, clay work and metal work.
The month long workshop opened on Sept 1 and teams of master craftsman from various tribal parts of Chattisgarh,Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh were invited to participate in the workshop.Nagpurkars have a rare opportunity to experience the tribal heritage and observe the production process for creating these artworks first hand.
The workshop is open from 10 am till 6 pm where one can visit visit as per their convenience to see the artists at work.You can also work with the artists to create art pieces.Presently, huts are under construction on one side while the articles to be placed inside the huts are being prepared at the other.Nagpurkars should no miss this opportunity to get acquainted with the tribal art forms and to experience the tribal lifestyle of Central India.
