The annual technical festival of VNIT is about to begin, with the Launch of Axis 2011 Website! Read on to know all that is going to be in this year's Axis, as this Engineering college is known for its High Innovation Quotient :

Innumerable times have we cursed this life, the present system and the authority. Our life today is seaming with corruption, crime, poverty, wars, inequality of access, unnecessary stresses and distractions while our Earth is brimming with pollution and population related problems. Thus our way of life is unsustainable, especially for ourselves.

To help find a solution to this seemingly unsolvable problem, VNIT’s Annual Technical Festival – AXIS is organizing a talk and discussion on the philosophy of the American futurist Mr. Jacques Fresco - the acclaimed "Zeitgeist Movement" and Fresco's "Venus Project" , which is a 21-acre research centre is located near Lake Okeechobee, USA.

According to Fresco, poverty, crime, corruption and war are the result of scarcity created by the present world's profit-based economic system. He theorizes that the profit motive also stifles the progress of socially beneficial technology, and instead he favors a system that fosters the purpose motive. Fresco claims that the progression of technology, if it were carried on independently of its profitability, would make more resources available to more people by producing an abundance of products and materials.

This new-found abundance of resources would, according to Fresco, reduce the human tendency toward individualism, corruption, and greed, and instead rely on people helping each other. The Movement aims to begin a global transition to a new sustainable social design called the Resource Based Economy. The Zeitgeist Movement is engaged in spreading mass awareness on the project, facilitating global understanding of its goals, and encouraging informed activism around the world.

In other words, if we follow Fresco's ideology, the world would no longer need 'Money'! Which, he thinks (and many may agree) is the cause of a lot many world problems.

The event would consist of a short film made on the aformentioned Venus project and an open discussion with their India Chapter Head - Mr. Rishi Gangoly. Besides, the official Website Launch of the Technical Festival shall also take place in the evening. The Director, Dr C. S. Moghe shall preside over the function. According to the organizers, AXIS 2011 promises to have a vibrant mix of technical, management and leisure events. They will enable students to pit their ideas against one another in a friendly yet competitive atmosphere.

This idea may seem unclear to you, but surely, the thought that you won't need money anymore, is enough to arouse curiosity! Take some time off and listen to what this world - famous Futurist has to say. Chances are, you will come out thinking altogether differently!
