Visveswaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur is one of the esteemed National Institutes of Technology in the country. Formerly known as Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (VRCE), the college was established in the year 1960 as a joint venture of Government of India and Government of Maharashtra. It is named after the great Engineer, Statesman & Visionary of modern India Sir Mokshagundam Visveswaraya.
The college was granted the deemed university status in the year 2002 and was declared as an institute of national importance in the year 2007.
Spread in an area of about 220 acres, the college is located in the heart of the city having the main entrance gate at South Ambazari Road and two other entrances at Bajaj Nagar and Yeshwant Nagar.

The institute boasts of excellent infrastructural facilities such as a well equipped library, a computer centre, Seminar halls, lecture hall complex, various laboratories in different departments, Computer Centre, Workshop, Hydraulic Lab, Mechanical Lab, workshops, Material Science Lab, Industry Institute interaction cell, hostels, health care centre, a gymnasium and various facilities for sports, games and co-curricular as well as extra-curricular activities.
Aarohi, the annual cultural festival is observed every year in the institute which has active participation from students from all over the country. Organised in the month of February every year, the festival has various signature events like Abhivyakti, A La Danse, Cynosure, Pentathlon, Purple Haze and Swar Manzar. Abhivyakti is the dramatics event which includes street plays with a social cause. A La Danse and Swar Manzar are the dancing and singing competitions which attract participants from different genre and dancing styles. Cynosure is the personality contest consisting of various rounds that test their character and composure judged by a panel of jury from varied field. Pentathlon is a group event with tasks ranging from a wide spectrum of area. Purple Haze is the flagship event of the festival and has performances by rock bands as well as fusion artists. The Cult Nite is curtain raiser to Aarohi and is organized the night before Aarohi formally commences. The money collected from Cult Nite is donated to charity. It has funds donated to Baba Amte's Anandvan, Shraddhananda Anathalaya, Sweekar, CAFE and Kritadnyata and continues this practice of social responsibility. A cycle rally is also organized every year during the festival, in an attempt to promote cycling as a means to curb the menace of global warming as well to create awareness about various tempting issues.
Axis is the national-level technical festival of VNIT. The festival is organised every year in the month of September and has various events like Cypher, DEVISE, Robotix and Technodox.
Cypher is a coding competition, DEVISE is the architectural event, Robotix is the robotics event while Technodox is the technical paper presentation event. The event also has a guest lecture series under TED known as TEDxVNIT.
Consortium is yet another event which is a business and management festival. It is one of the very few bizfests organized by engineering undergraduates in India and sees participation from students all over the country. The prime objective of the fest is not only to test and brighten the managerial skills of the participants, but also to promote a general business insight and to ignite a much needed entrepreneurial attitude in the dynamic youth of India.
The institute has superb placement records with students getting placed in various MNCs like Microsoft, Oracle, nVidia Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Deloitte, DRDO, BHEL, John Deere, IBM, Accenture, Infosys, TCS, L&T Infotech, Patni, Zensar, Honeywell, Thermax, PRAJ Industries Ltd., Reliance Industries Limited etc.
