Vidarbha Region has always been known as the mineral rich region of maharashtra. In fact, recent studies have shown that the Central India belt is the second largest mineral belt in the country.
People of Vidarbha would be surprised to know that Vidarbha holds 2/3rd of Maharashtra's mineral resources, three quarters of its forest resources and is a net producer of power. Chandrapur district alone contributes 29% of all mineral output of Maharashtra.
Various minerals like Manganese, Bauxite, Uranium, Limestone, Marble, Coal, Gems, Mica, Graphite etc. exist in large quantities and the net extent of the minerals of the region is yet to be assessed.
The Chandrapur, Gondia, Gadchiroli, Bhandara and Nagpur Districts form the main mineral belt, with coal and manganese as the major minerals. Iron ore and limestone are identified as potential mining resources.
