Maintenance Command of Indian Air Force (IAF) was formed at Kanpur on 26 January 1955.IAF, however, was poised to expand in times to come and so Nagpur was eventually selected as the new site for setting up Maintenance Command Headquarters, knowing well that its satellite work-centers were destined to populate every nook and corner of the Indian Territory. Maintenance Command moved its headquarters from Kanpur to Nagpur on 13 June 1963.

The Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) was established in 1948, as a multi-disciplinary government organization under The Department of Mines, Ministry of Mines. It is engaged in promotion of conservation, scientific development of mineral resources and protection of environment in mines other than coal, petroleum & natural gas, atomic minerals and minor minerals.
The current functions of IBM include promoting conservation of mineral resources by way of inspection of mines, geological studies, scrutiny and approval of mining plans and mining schemes, conducting environmental studies and environment related activities and also providing technical consultancy services to mineral industry, and functioning as a data bank for mines and minerals, and preparing of technical and statistical publications.
Headed by the Controller General, IBM has six technical divisions with its head quarters at Nagpur. There is a Modern Mineral Processing Laboratory and Pilot Plant established with the assistance of United Nations Development Programme in Nagpur.IBM has 3 Zonal Offices, 12 Regional Offices and 2 Sub-Regional Offices, 2 Regional Ore Dressing Laboratories and Pilot Plants spread over the Country.

The idea of opening a Training College for Fire Service personnel of the country was conceived in the Expert Committee Meeting held in 1950 and the National Fire service college was established in 1956 at Rampur, U.P., and was later shifted to the present location, Nagpur, considering the Geographical and climatic advantage the city has.
The college is housed at the Old Settlement Commissionate Building, altered the premises to the adequacy of a fire service Training Center, with sufficient space for conducting Fire Drills, and Demonstrations. The National Fire Service College, Nagpur functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi.
Apart from a 3 and half years engineering course B.E (fire engineering) there are 14 other diplomas available with duration ranging from 5 days to 25 weeks.

The Raman Science Centre at Nagpur is an interactive science center affiliated with Mumbai's Nehru Science Centre. The centre was developed to promote a scientific attitude, portray the growth of science and technology and hold science exhibits. The Raman Science Centre was inaugurated on 7 March 1992 and the planetarium was started on 5 January 1997. The centre is part of the National Council of Science Museums, India which is also the largest network of science centers. The centre carries out numerous programs to spread science and technology knowledge amongst the general public.
In August 2007, the information and communication technology gallery was opened. The centre currently has 45 different interactive galleries including a 133 seat planetarium, fun science, a prehistoric Animal Park and more. The centre also holds science lectures, science film shows and 3-dimensional science shows. The centre also organizes activities like planet watching and other celestial phenomena for citizens.

Ordnance Factory, Nagpur is a premier factory in the family of 40 Ordnance Factories. Its corporate office is ORDNANCE FACTORY BOARD located at KOLKATA. The factory is engaged in the manufacture of Ammunition Hardware viz Shells, Cartridge cases, Fuzes & Primers, Castings & Extrusion of Special Alloys and Fabrication of Floating & Manually Launched Assault Bridges.
Factory is producing mainly Ammunition Hardware and Al. Alloy Bridges intended for Armed Forces. The Bridges are directly supplied to Army. The Factory is also producing Special Aluminum Alloys to meet the requirement of Air Craft Industry and Space application. The Major customers include HAL Bangalore, ADA Bangalore, ISRO, DRDO, LPSC etc.
Ordnance Factory, Nagpur is situated on the outskirts of Nagpur city, at a distance of 16 kms from Nagpur Railway Station, on Nagpur - Amravati road.
