HISTORY
What is now known as Institute of Science in Nagpur, first came into existence by the name of 'Victoria Technical Institute' in the year 1906.
After the establishment of Nagpur University in 1924, the foundation of the present Architectural marvel was laid by Baron Irwin (the viceroy & governor general of India) in 1926.
M'Owen, who was a researcher in Magnetism, was the first Principal of the college.
In the year 1962, the Maharshtra Govt. recognised this institute to the cause of education & research, and the college was upgraded to an 'institute'.
The Institute building is a heritage structure.
Presently, the Institute is affiliated to R.T.M. Nagpur University, Nagpur.
